Macau Grand Prix was initiated by three Portuguese men in 1954. Over fifty
years, it has now grown to be one of the biggest motor sport events in
Asia and is renowned as a yearly classic event.
When race week comes, Macau is filled with the air of motor racing. Many
of the city's main streets are closed during the daytime to give way to
the racing course. The track is a combination of fast stretches on the
ocean side and the extremely technical mountain side, which creates a very
exiting and thrilling street circuit. Because there is virtually no escape
zone, the slightest mistake can lead to a crash, but the drivers still
have to be aggressive as overtaking points are very limited, which makes
the race even tougher for them.
The Grand Prix race is contended over by Formula Three cars and attracts
much attention from all over the world as "the race of F3 champions",
because many top rank racers of the F3 championships in Europe and Japan
come to this race.
It is also considered to be "a stepping-stone to Formula One"
for the young and rising drivers. Starting with Ayrton Senna who won the
race in 1983, the same year when the race was run with F3 cars for the
first time, many drivers have obtained their accesse to F1 Grand Prix racing
after winning at Macau, including the first Japanese winner in 2001, Takuma
Sato.
【ADVAN TIRE INFORMATION】
Since 1983, the first year when the Macau Grand Prix was run with F3 cars,
ADVAN has been the sole supplier of control tires for the race.
Because the race is fiercely competitive on a very rough surface, a high
level of grip, controllability and reliability are required for the control
tires. The track record of winning the contract for consecutive twenty-five
years is proof of the fact that ADVAN racing tires satisfy all the requirements
and obtain the hard won trust from the drivers and teams, as well as race
organizers.
ADVAN is also appointed as the control tire supplier for the World Touring
Car Championship (WTCC) which holds a championship round in the same weekend
as the F3 race. These comprise the twin main events of the Macau Grand
Prix, so that during the third week of November, the city of Macau is filled
with the flag of ADVAN.
