Le Mans 24 Hours is an around-the-clock race held at Sarthe Circuit in
France. The endurance classic has a very long history (beginning in 1923)
and is considered to be one of the three greatest races in the world. ADVAN
has been involved in this race for twenty-five years.
The race has contributed to the evolution of the automobile. In the early
days, many car manufacturers took part in it to showcase the performance,
especially the reliability, of their products and, in return, helped Le
Mans 24 Hours grow up to be a world class event.
Then, in parallel with ensuring reliability, the quest for speed began
and the speed of cars rose year by year, corresponding with the improvement
of chassis and engines. More recently, the race has answered the global
question of environmental issues by witnessing a historical first ever
win by a diesel powered car.
For the 2008 version of the race, ADVAN is taking on a new challenge in
partnership with the Tokai University Le Mans Project led by Prof. Yoshimasa
Hayashi. The project is the first ever educational-industrial complex to
enter a car in the endurance classic and is attracting much attention from
both inside and outside the motor sport field.
【ADVAN TIRE INFORMATION】
ADVAN has competed in this most rigorous endurance event for twenty-five
years.
Sarthe Circuit, the venue of Le Mans 24 Hours, is a combination of a dedicated
race track and public roads around it and the total length of a lap is
more than 13km. For the around-the-clock race on this demanding track,
it is needless to say that the essential factors required for tires are
durability and reliability. ADVAN racing tires are supported by technical
expertise that has been accumulated for a quarter century and highly appreciated
by its user teams and drivers.
In such a long endurance race, fuel efficiency is strategically important.
To help this aspect, ADVAN has developed tires that contribute to the total
fuel efficiency of a car by reducing rolling resistance. This compatibility
between high performance and fuel efficiency is also the fruition of YOKOHAMA
Rubber's technical expertise and the experience gained in this endurance
classic over the years.
Temperatures drop sharply at nighttime at Sarthe and it is a well-known
fact that many of the accidents in this around-the-clock race happen at
night when the surface gets colder. ADVAN racing tires perform well in
a wide temperature window, which means they deliver a high grip night and
day, preserving a long enough life for the endurance race.
