The FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) Chevrolet team demonstrated the adaptability of the Yokohama ADVAN tyres with a stunning 1-2-3 finish for today's round 11 in Porto, Portugal.
Swiss driver Alain Menu led home Rob Huff and Nicola Larini, proving that
even around a temporary street track like the Circuit da Boavista, ADVAN
rubber can deliver consistent performance.
"On this track it doesn't seem there is even a great deal of tyre
wear," said Menu. "Street circuits can be very hard on the tyres,
and when there isn't much room for error you need to know that the grip
will be there as you expect every corner. In the race for me, the tyres
were very good and I was able to push whenever I needed to."
Defending champion Andy Priaulx claimed his first victory of the season
in the second race. After winning last year's WTCC title on the Yokohama
ADVAN control tyres, he is in no doubt as to their effectiveness.
"I've a lot of experience of running and winning on these tyres,"
says Priaulx. "And again at Porto, even with so much ballast, it has
been possible to win on them again."
"Any street circuit is a tremendous test for a tyre," said Yokohama
Europe Motorsport Manager Matthijs Mathlener. "We have worked hard
to produce a tyre which performs as well on a temporary circuit as on a
permanent circuit with the highest quality surface.
This weekend has again shown that we have achieved our aim in producing
a tyre worthy of the FIA World Touring Car Championship. The difference
between this circuit, which it tight and twisty with close barriers, and
Brno which we recently visited is immense, and the ADVAN tyre has excelled
at both."
