Even on a worldwide basis, there aren't many race tracks which hold around
the clock endurance races.
Among such few venues, Le Mans 24 Hours is the most prestigious and has
the longest history.
The inaugural race of this French classic was held in 1923, i.e. well over
eighty years ago.
At the time, Japanese people knew about the automobile, but the number
of cars in Japan were limited and very few people could foresee the country's
future as a highly motorised society.
Thirty-three cars started the inaugural race and the event has become more
and more international from year to year.
In parallel to the spread of automobiles around the world, many car manufacturers
came in to test the reliability of their products and promote sales.
It remains the same today.
Not only for the cars but for the tires, the Le Mans 24 Hours race is the
very important event to demonstrate performance to the public and try for
innovation.
